What is Quality Score?
Quality Score is Google's 1 to 10 rating of how relevant your keyword, ad and landing page are to the person searching. It blends expected click through rate, ad relevance and landing page experience, and it directly affects what you pay per click and where you show.
Why it matters
Search auctions do not just sell to the highest bidder: they weigh bids by quality. Relevant ads pay less for better positions; irrelevant ads subsidise them. Two advertisers can pay wildly different prices for the same click, and the difference is quality. It is the closest thing search has to a discount for doing the work properly.
How to improve it
- Tight ad groups: keywords grouped by real intent, with ads written for that intent, not one generic ad for everything.
- Message match end to end: the query, the ad and the landing page telling one continuous story.
- Landing page experience: fast, relevant, mobile friendly pages that answer what was searched.
The honest view
Quality Score is a diagnostic, not a KPI: nobody banks a 10. Use it to find where relevance leaks, fix the leak, and collect the result where it counts, cheaper clicks and better positions on the queries that make money.
