What is omnichannel?
Omnichannel means the customer meets one continuous brand across every channel: site, store, social, email, service. Multichannel is being present everywhere; omnichannel is being coherent everywhere, with each channel aware of the others.
What it looks like when it works
- Continuity: the cart started on mobile is waiting on desktop; the store knows about the online order.
- Consistent story: the same positioning, tone and offer logic wherever the customer looks.
- Connected data: one view of the customer across touchpoints, so messages build on each other instead of repeating.
- Sequenced media: campaigns that recognise where someone already is in the journey instead of starting from zero on every channel.
Why it matters
Customers do not think in channels; they think in one relationship with the brand. Every discontinuity, the repeated question, the offer that vanished, the promise one channel makes and another breaks, taxes trust and conversion. Coherence is not cosmetic: connected journeys convert better and retain longer.
The honest view
Omnichannel is an integration problem before it is a marketing problem: fragmented tools, teams and data produce fragmented experiences no campaign can paper over. Fix the connections first, then the campaigns get to compound instead of compete.
