What is native advertising?
Native advertising is paid content designed to match the form and feel of its environment: a sponsored article in a news feed, a recommended story, a branded video that flows with the editorial around it. It is advertising that borrows the platform's clothes.
Why it works
People filter ads reflexively; they read content by choice. Native formats slip past banner blindness because they behave like the surrounding content, earning attention the format would otherwise be denied. Done well, they deliver real value, useful, interesting, entertaining, and the brand gets credit for it.
Why it needs care
- Disclosure is not optional: readers who feel tricked convert their annoyance into distrust of the brand, and regulators agree with them. Label it, always.
- The content must deserve the read: native placement buys the first glance; only quality keeps the reader. A brochure in disguise dies in the first paragraph.
- Fit beats reach: the environment lends its credibility, so choose environments whose credibility you actually want.
The system view
Native belongs to the same logic as social first content and UGC: the feed rewards what belongs. It is one more expression of the same rule, meet people inside what they are already reading, watching and trusting, rather than interrupting it.
