What is GA4?
GA4 is Google's analytics platform, built on events rather than sessions. Connected to your media accounts and CRM, it follows the journey from first session to final sale, across devices.
What it does well
- Event model: every interaction is an event, which fits how people actually use sites and apps today.
- Cross device journeys: one user across phone, laptop and app, instead of three anonymous visitors.
- Media integration: audiences and conversions flow to Google Ads, and campaign data flows back.
- Raw data access: the BigQuery export opens the door to real analysis beyond the interface.
The honest view
GA4 out of the box answers almost nothing. The default setup tracks page views and little else, the interface hides more than it shows, and many properties never define a conversion properly. It starts paying off when it is configured around your business: clean events, defined conversions, sensible audiences, data flowing into dashboards people actually read.
Why it matters
Every automated bidding system in the Google stack learns from the signals analytics sends it. Weak analytics means weak automation means wasted media. Analytics is not a report, it is the nervous system of the growth engine, and it deserves the same craft as the campaigns it steers.
